The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to stronger collaboration with the National Hydrographic Agency to improve navigational safety and maritime operations across Nigeria’s waterways.
The development was announced in a statement released on Sunday by NIMASA spokesman Edward Osagie after a visit by the Hydrographer of the Nation, Olumide Fadahunsi, to the agency’s Lagos headquarters.
During the visit, Fadahunsi praised the existing partnership between both organisations and pledged continued cooperation in providing hydrographic services to Nigeria’s maritime industry.
He stressed the importance of promoting locally produced nautical charts and hydrographic tools to improve maritime safety, security and effective monitoring of the nation’s territorial waters.
According to him, hydrography plays a vital role in maritime safety and national development.
Fadahunsi said enhanced collaboration between the National Hydrographic Agency and NIMASA would contribute significantly to safer navigation, improved maritime security and sustainable growth within the maritime sector.
Speaking during the meeting, NIMASA Director-General Dayo Mobereola said the agency was focusing on improving Maritime Safety Information infrastructure, strengthening enforcement mechanisms and developing human capacity within the sector.
Mobereola noted that strategic collaboration with the National Hydrographic Agency was critical to achieving these goals.
He reiterated NIMASA’s commitment to initiatives aimed at improving operational standards, ensuring safer waterways and supporting the growth of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
The NIMASA chief added that the partnership would help advance the agency’s responsibility for navigational safety through the use of accurate and up-to-date nautical charts for shipping activities.
