The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has written the foreword to a new book celebrating the life and contributions of renowned pharmacist and academic, Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, ahead of his 70th birthday anniversary.
The book, titled “Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora: A Pillar of Pharmacy Regulation in Nigeria,” will be officially launched in Kaduna.
The publication highlights Prof. Mora’s decades-long contributions to pharmaceutical education, healthcare regulation, mentorship and public service in Nigeria.
The foreword by the Sultan reflects the longstanding relationship between the monarch and Prof. Mora, described as a well-cultured disciplinarian and childhood friend of the traditional ruler.
It also acknowledges Mora’s commitment to professionalism, national development, peaceful coexistence and interfaith harmony.
Prof. Mora, currently the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as a pharmacist in 1978.
He later rose to become a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice and earned recognition as one of Nigeria’s leading voices in pharmaceutical education and regulation.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, Mora taught and mentored thousands of students across institutions including Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna State University and Igbinedion University.
Many of his former students and associates now occupy strategic positions within Nigeria’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
The publication project was initiated by former students, colleagues and associates under the platform of Prof. A. T. Mora Book Project Committee, chaired by Pharm. Aliyu Jibrin.
According to the committee, the book was conceived to preserve Mora’s enduring legacy and document his contributions to strengthening pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical regulation in Nigeria.
The publication also chronicles Mora’s involvement with major pharmaceutical regulatory institutions, including the former Pharmacists Board of Nigeria and the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), where he served between 1989 and 2023 in various capacities, including Registrar/Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Governing Council.
Several prominent dignitaries are expected at the launch ceremony.
Former Vice President Namadi Sambo will chair the occasion, while the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, will attend as Traditional Father of the Day.
Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, is expected as Special Guest of Honour, while the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, will attend as Guest of Honour.
The book review will be conducted by Prof. Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi, former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja.
Organisers said the event would also serve as a platform to reflect on the growth of pharmaceutical education and regulation in Nigeria and the role played by Prof. Mora in the sector over the decades.
