Nigerian Stars Shine In 2026 BET Awards Nominations

Afrobeats stars Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Asake have been nominated for the 2026 BET Awards, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing dominance on the global music stage.

According to the nomination list published on the official BET Awards platform, the Nigerian artistes secured nominations across several major categories.

Tems led the Nigerian contingent with three nominations. The singer earned recognition in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category, received a BET Her Award nomination for First, and was also nominated for the Viewers’ Choice Award for Raindance alongside British rapper Dave.

Wizkid and Asake were jointly nominated in the Best Group category following their recent musical collaboration and international commercial success.

Burna Boy also secured a nomination in the Best Collaboration category for his appearance on WGFT by American rapper Gunna.

The latest nominations continue a strong tradition of Nigerian representation at the BET Awards, where Nigerian artistes have enjoyed significant success over the years.

Wizkid remains among Africa’s most successful BET winners, while Burna Boy has maintained a strong presence in international categories in recent editions.

Other Nigerian artistes who have previously won BET Awards include Davido, 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince and Ayra Starr, who claimed the Best International Act award in 2025.

In the film and television categories, stars of Nigerian heritage also received recognition. Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo earned nominations for Best Actress, while Damson Idris was nominated for Best Actor.

The BET Awards 2026 will hold on 28 June at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

Comedian Druski is expected to host the ceremony, becoming the youngest presenter in the award show’s history.

The annual awards celebrate achievements in music, film, entertainment, philanthropy and contributions to Black culture globally.
