Federal Government Resumes Repatriation Of Nigerians From South Africa

The Federal Government says it is set to begin the second phase of its evacuation programme for Nigerian nationals wishing to return from South Africa, with 271 people expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa.

He said an Air Peace aircraft would depart Nigeria on Monday afternoon and arrive in South Africa later in the evening before returning with the evacuees.

According to Ebienfa, the return flight is scheduled to leave South Africa at midnight and land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday morning.

The latest exercise follows an earlier evacuation operation in which 258 Nigerians were repatriated from South Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the evacuation forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting Nigerians abroad who voluntarily wish to return home and ensuring that citizens are not left to face unnecessary hardship overseas.
