Swift Police Response Quells Thug Violence In Kano Metropolis

Normalcy has been restored in parts of Kano metropolis after police intervened in a violent clash involving rival groups of suspected hoodlums in the Gyadi-Gyadi area.

The Kano State Police Command disclosed that the groups, commonly referred to as “Yan Daba”, had mobilised for a confrontation before officers were alerted.

Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement on Tuesday, said the command received a distress call in the early afternoon of 27 April and immediately dispatched patrol teams to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers were met with intense violence, during which an ambulance was destroyed. The hoodlums reportedly attempted to escalate the unrest by targeting additional locations.

Kiyawa said the suspects attacked the responding officers with stones and weapons, but the police managed to repel them. The group later retreated towards the Farm Centre Market, where they tried to loot shops.

Additional personnel were deployed, successfully dispersing the hoodlums and leading to the arrest of six suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, praised the officers’ courage and professionalism, stating that their prompt action averted a wider breakdown of law and order.

He reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for thuggery and urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information, as investigations continue to identify and apprehend those still at large.
