As the UN’s Decade of Action for the Sustainable Development Goals approaches its final stretch, the NYSC orientation camp in Edo State has graduated 75 corps members as SDGs ambassadors in partnership with Florish Foundation for Women and Youths.
The three-day training at the Okada camp began with 120 interested corps members out of over 2,000 on site. By the close of the session, 75 volunteers were certified as Development Knowledge Facilitators (DKFs), equipped to drive awareness of the 17 SDGs within their communities of primary assignment and beyond.
Edo NYSC coordinator, Fashina Adedotun, represented by camp director Mr Hakeem Adewuyi, charged the graduates to act as change agents. “The UN SDGs are significant to the development of nations,” he said, noting that the camp ran a similar programme in January, also producing over 75 volunteers.
Florish Foundation’s Chinwendu Augusta Nwachukwu and SDGs schedule officer Mr Cosmas addressed 1,961 corps members, offering detailed insights on each of the 17 global goals. Service innovation officer Mr Waheed Ozeto called on participants to integrate the training into the larger society.
The graduation ceremony underscored a growing commitment to closing development gaps through youth-led advocacy, with the new ambassadors expected to mobilise government, private sector, and civil society ahead of the 2030 agenda.
