Kano Executive Council Approves ₦79.49bn For Key Development Projects

The Kano State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦79.49bn for the execution of critical projects across major sectors of the state economy.

The approval was reached during the 39th Executive Council meeting held on April 28, 2026, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

According to the statement, the approvals covered education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, water resources, urban development, transportation, and public welfare initiatives.

In the education sector, the council approved over ₦4.45bn for the payment of registration fees for external examinations, including NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS, for Kano State indigenes in 2026.

It also approved ₦2bn for the procurement of school furniture for primary and junior secondary schools across 30 local government areas.

Additional allocations were made for the renovation and construction of school facilities, classroom blocks, laboratories, and administrative buildings in various schools across the state.

In the health sector, approvals included funds for the renovation of Wudil General Hospital, routine immunisation programmes, maternal and child health services, and the procurement of hospital equipment.

The council also approved interventions aimed at strengthening primary healthcare centres in selected local government areas.

For infrastructure, major road projects received significant funding, including ₦5.21bn for the road linking Panshekara Underpass to Madobi Bridge.

Other approvals in the sector covered road rehabilitation works in Gwale Local Government Area, as well as facility upgrades at the NYSC camp in Kusalla.

The water resources sector recorded some of the largest allocations, with ₦11.39bn approved for the rehabilitation of Challawa Water Intake Station, water treatment plants, and Goron Dutse reservoirs.

Another ₦9.94bn was earmarked for the rehabilitation of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant.

In agriculture, the council approved ₦3.5bn for the procurement of over 41,000 bags of fertiliser, alongside renovation works at agricultural offices and irrigation schemes.

Urban development projects also featured prominently, with approvals for street naming, house numbering, and urban renewal initiatives valued at several billions of naira.

The council further approved ₦6.59bn for land compensation linked to the establishment of Gaya Polytechnic.

Other interventions included ₦3bn for special projects across 15 local government areas, ₦626m for the rehabilitation of 1,000 repentant youths under the Safe Corridor Programme, and ₦143.69m for a butchers’ empowerment programme.

The statement noted that the approvals reflected the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to improving public infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and overall socio-economic development in Kano State.

It added that all projects would be executed in line with due process and accountability measures.
