NNPC Praises NIPetGE, Backs Energy Sector Reforms

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. has praised the Nigerian Institute of Petroleum and Gas Engineers for advancing Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by NIPetGE President-elect, Mrs Prisca Kanebi, and her delegation to NNPC Ltd. leadership.

The Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bayo Ojulari, was represented by Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Mr Olalekan Ogunleye.

In a statement on Sunday, Kanebi said the meeting reflected shared determination to reposition Nigeria’s hydrocarbon industry for emerging global energy realities.

According to her, discussions focused on energy transition, technological advancement, operational sustainability and long-term competitiveness in the petroleum sector.

Speaking during the meeting, Ogunleye commended NIPetGE’s growing influence in policy development and professional capacity building.

He also praised the institute’s contributions to engineering innovation and technical advancement across Nigeria’s petroleum value chain.

Ogunleye said, “NNPC Ltd. recognises the strategic role of NIPetGE in shaping a stronger and more innovative energy sector.”

He pledged NNPC Ltd.’s continued support for the institute and promised deeper collaboration on strategic industry initiatives.

Kanebi highlighted key outcomes from the institute’s recent conference, especially discussions around Federal Government decarbonisation policies.

She reaffirmed NIPetGE’s support for policies aimed at building a sustainable and technology-driven hydrocarbon economy.

Kanebi said the institute proposed establishing a National Centre for Intelligent Energy Systems.

She explained the centre would support artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and robotics across petroleum operations.

According to her, the proposal would improve efficiency, productivity and environmental performance across the industry.

She also said NIPetGE recommended a hydrocarbon-based emissions trading framework for Nigeria.

Kanebi noted that the framework would position Nigeria to participate more actively in global carbon markets.

She added that fiscal incentives were also recommended to strengthen local manufacturing and petroleum services.

According to her, NIPetGE also called for expanding the Energy Transition Plan with measurable upstream decarbonisation targets.

The institute further advocated stronger public-private partnerships in emission control infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

Both organisations stressed stronger collaboration between academia and industry in developing future petroleum professionals.

They also emphasised knowledge exchange, improved professional training and innovation-driven research partnerships.

Kanebi disclosed that the institute’s chartered status bill had passed second reading at the National Assembly.

She said the bill was progressing steadily towards third reading.

Kanebi said, “Our commitment remains focused on innovation, efficiency and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s energy industry.”

Both parties described the engagement as a significant step towards a resilient and future-ready petroleum industry.
