Anambra Assembly Amends State Local Government Administration Law, 2024

A Bill for a Law to amend the Anambra State Local Government Administration Law, 2024 has been passed into law by Anambra law makers.

The Executive Bill was presented by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Jude Akpua  representing Njikoka 2, and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Johnbosco Akaegbobi, representing Nnewi South 2 constituency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Wednesday in Awka that the bill passed first, second and third reading.

NAN also reports that the bill amended Section 101 of the Principal Law by the insertion of a new Section 101 and the re-numbering of the other sections accordingly.

The above section states that legal representation of local governments in all legal proceedings in court may be undertaken by lawyers from the Ministry of Justice assigned by the Attorney General of the State.

It also states that a local government may, subject to the approval of the Attorney General of the State, engage legal practitioners other than those from the Ministry of Justice, to represent the local government in any proceeding in court.

The Speaker of the House, Dr Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over the plenary adjourned sitting till April 30.
