Residents of Agbado-Oke-Odo LCDA in Lagos State have been advised to switch off their generators by 11.00 p.m. daily to enhance security and public well-being.
The Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Mr Kasumu Olubowale, said the directive forms part of a state government initiative introduced during the tenure of former governor Babatunde Fashola.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Olubowale clarified that the policy did not originate from the local council.
He said the measure requires residents to turn off generators between 11.00 p.m. and midnight to aid security management and improve night-time vigilance.
Olubowale noted that compliance should be driven through Community Development Associations, given the limited number of police personnel relative to the over 2,700 streets in the area.
He added that the directive would also reduce noise pollution, enabling residents—especially those with health concerns—to enjoy uninterrupted rest.
According to him, excessive generator noise at night undermines the calm environment needed for effective security patrols.
He appealed to residents to comply, stressing that the initiative is aimed at promoting safety, order and peaceful coexistence within the community.
