Obidient Movement Urges Judicial Neutrality Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The Obidient Movement has called for judicial neutrality, expressing concern that recent legal proceedings involving the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) could undermine confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, the movement’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said recent court rulings concerning the party’s recognition had generated public concern about the independence of the judiciary.

Tanko alleged that litigation challenging the NDC’s status was initiated shortly after former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi joined the party, and claimed the case lacked proper legal standing.

He urged the judiciary to remain independent and impartial, stressing that public confidence in the courts was essential to maintaining democratic stability and resolving political disputes peacefully.

The Obidient Movement also called on the Federal Government to safeguard the independence of the judiciary and ensure equal treatment for all political parties throughout the electoral process.

Tanko appealed to supporters to remain peaceful and pursue political change through lawful and democratic means despite the ongoing legal disputes.

He expressed optimism that Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso would appear on the ballot in the 2027 presidential election, adding that the movement would sustain its mobilisation efforts across the country.
