The Allied Forces for Lagos Growth has commended the emergence of Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi as the running mate to the All Progressives Congress consensus governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
The group described the ticket as a strong combination of administrative competence, financial expertise and economic vision capable of advancing Lagos State’s development.
This was contained in a statement signed by Otunba Kayode Adeyinka Esq. and made available to journalists on Monday in Abuja.
According to the group, the choice of Gbeleyi by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership reflects a commitment to competence and sound economic management.
The statement noted that Gbeleyi’s experience in finance, housing policy and public sector reforms positioned him as a valuable addition to the governorship ticket.
It stated that as former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Gbeleyi managed one of the most complex fiscal structures in Africa and helped strengthen the state’s financial credibility.
The group also highlighted his tenure as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, where he was said to have contributed to affordable housing finance policies aimed at improving home ownership opportunities for Nigerians.
AFFLAG further pointed to his current role as Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, noting that his engagement with international financial institutions such as the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation had exposed him to global investment standards.
Speaking on Hamzat, the group described the current Lagos State Deputy Governor as an experienced administrator with strong knowledge of infrastructure development, urban planning and governance.
The statement added that the partnership between Hamzat and Gbeleyi would bring together engineering expertise and financial discipline needed to drive Lagos into a new phase of economic growth.
“Together, this ticket offers a powerful fusion of engineering and economics, administration and finance, public service and private sector discipline,” the statement read.
The group also stressed that Gbeleyi’s emergence carried political significance for Lagos West, particularly Oshodi-Isolo, describing it as recognition of the area’s contribution to the electoral success of the APC in the state.
AFFLAG expressed confidence that the proposed administration would focus on infrastructure expansion, investment drive and prudent management of public resources.
The group, however, urged the incoming administration to prioritise gender inclusion by appointing competent women into strategic positions in government.
It maintained that Lagos possessed many qualified women across sectors who were capable of contributing meaningfully to governance.
The group called on Lagos residents to support the Hamzat-Gbeleyi ticket, insisting that the alliance represented merit, experience and the collective future of the state.
