The Police Command in Niger says it has arrested two suspects for criminal conspiracy, and receiving stolen property in Minna.
This is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday in Minna.
Abiodun stated that on April 21, at 3.00a.m, a report received indicated that one Talba and Suleiman, both presently at large, trespassed into a residence in Gatatu, stole a cow valued over N1 million.
He stated further that the suspects took the cow to the house of Anthony Ahmed, where it was slaughtered and sold to Hajia Aisha Shuaibu.
He explained that based on the report, Police operatives attached to STS arrested two suspects – Anthony Ahmed, 37 years of Gatatu; and Hajia Aisha Shuaibu, 70 years of Soje ‘A’ Minna.
“The two suspects were arrested with the cow head, legs, tail and the skin.
“They confessed to the crime and Shaibu stated that she bought the cow at the cost of N350,000,” he said.
Abiodun said that efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects were being intensified.
In another development, the command said it had recovered four rustled cows in Lapai, Minna.
Abiodun explained that on April 11, at about 2.00am, some hoodlums stormed a camp at Tagwai Dam area in Chanchaga and rustled four cows.
“On receiving this, the Police operatives attached to Crack Squad commenced investigation and based on intelligence, trailed the cattle rustlers to a forest within Lapai.
“The operatives engaged the criminals in a gun duel, overpowered them and, they fled and abandoned the cows.
“The cows were recovered and released to the bonafide owner while effort is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he disclosed.
