The World Health Organization has said the public risk remains low following a suspected hantavirus incident aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
The outbreak, which reportedly left three people dead and three others ill, occurred on the MV Hondius operated by Oceanwide Expeditions.
The vessel was sailing off Cape Verde after departing Argentina and visiting Antarctica and other destinations.
According to Hans Kluge, there is no need for travel restrictions, as hantavirus infections are uncommon and generally linked to contact with infected rodents rather than human-to-human transmission.
The WHO said it is supporting response efforts, including medical care, evacuation procedures and investigations into the suspected outbreak.
A spokesperson for the Dutch Foreign Ministry confirmed that two Dutch nationals were among those who died.
The organisation also said one affected passenger was receiving intensive care in South Africa, while laboratory testing has confirmed hantavirus in one case.
Investigations are continuing to establish the source and full scope of the incident.
