Court To Rule On Sowore’s No-Case Application As DSS Insists On Trial

The Department of State Services has asked the Federal High Court to reject a no-case submission filed by Omoyele Sowore in his ongoing trial.

Mr Sowore is facing charges over an alleged false claim involving President Bola Tinubu.

Prosecuting counsel Akinlolu Kehinde told Justice Mohammed Umar that the prosecution had established a prima facie case and urged the court to order the defendant to enter his defence.

However, defence lawyer Abubakar argued that the evidence presented failed to connect his client to the allegations. He asked the court to dismiss the charges and discharge the defendant.

He also contended that the prosecution’s failure to call key witnesses weakened its case, particularly regarding claims that Mr Sowore described the president as a “criminal” on social media.

Following submissions from both parties, the court adjourned proceedings until 8 May for a ruling.

Mr Sowore is being prosecuted under a two-count amended charge and has pleaded not guilty.
