ADC Seeks Foreign Policy Reset, Warns Against Military Intervention In Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Nigerian government to urgently appoint capable ambassadors and reform its foreign policy to restore global confidence and repair strained diplomatic ties.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made the appeal in a statement on Monday following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to list Nigeria among countries of particular concern.

Abdullahi said Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity and governance failures had eroded public trust at home and credibility abroad, warning that the crisis now posed an existential threat to all citizens.

He called for a total overhaul of the security sector — including an independent audit of leadership and operational performance — alongside economic reforms to curb inflation and expand social protection for the poor.

“The crisis confronting Nigeria is not about religion or ethnicity,” Abdullahi said. “It is about leadership, accountability, and the urgent need to protect human life.”

He described Trump’s statement as a global reminder that a nation’s dignity lies not only in economic power but in respect for human rights and the sanctity of life.

The ADC spokesperson also urged world leaders to support Nigeria through diplomatic engagement and institutional reforms, rather than military intervention.

“Nigeria’s democracy remains fragile but not beyond redemption,” he said. “This is a moment for courageous leadership and unity of purpose.”
