2027 Poll: Nathaniel Emerges Sole SDP Candidate In Adamawa

The Social Democratic Party has affirmed businessman and energy sector executive, Christopher Nathaniel, as its sole governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Adamawa State.

Nathaniel emerged unopposed on Thursday after delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state unanimously endorsed his candidature during the party’s governorship primary held at Duragi Hotels in Yola.

The exercise was supervised by national officials of the party led by the National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Ayenigba, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

Delegates adopted Nathaniel’s candidature through a voice vote following a motion moved by Hassan Laido of Yola South Local Government Area and seconded by Mrs Helen from Numan Local Government Area.

Speaking after his emergence, Nathaniel thanked party members and delegates for the confidence reposed in him, promising to provide responsive leadership and improve the welfare of residents if elected governor.

He pledged to clear outstanding pension liabilities within six months of assuming office.

“No pensioner will be owed a dime of his outstanding gratuity within the first six months of my administration. I will ensure all backlog of pension arrears are settled,” he said.

Nathaniel also outlined plans to reform the education sector, boost agricultural productivity and expand empowerment programmes for youths and women across the state.

The Greenville LNG director further promised to promote the use of gas as an alternative to petrol in transportation to reduce costs and improve economic activities.

The state chairman of the SDP, Paul Ahundana, commended delegates for their orderly conduct and praised the national leadership for ensuring a transparent process.

Ahundana expressed confidence that the party would offer Adamawa voters a credible alternative in the 2027 governorship election.

The affirmation makes the SDP one of the first political parties in Adamawa State to produce a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 polls.
