The Oyo State Police Command has said the suspect arrested over the alleged killing of six-year-old Mutiyatu Sunday has been taken to a medical facility for treatment after sustaining injuries from mob action.
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further discreet investigation and prosecution.
He noted that the police acted swiftly to rescue the suspect from an irate crowd, alongside securing critical evidence from the scene.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga condemned acts of jungle justice, warning that such actions undermine proper investigations and obstruct the course of justice.
He assured residents that justice would be served in the case and urged the public to remain calm and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
