Flooding: Ibeju-Lekki Council Begins Rehabilitation Work On Lakowe Culvert

The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area on Tuesday began rehabilitation works on the collapsed Lakowe culvert with the deployment of heavy boulders to prevent flooding.

According to the Ibeju-Lekki council Chairman, Mr Abdullahi Sesan-Olowa, the intervention is part of measures to prevent further deterioration and ensure the safety of motorists and residents.

Olowa, who spoke at the rehabilitation site, said the intervention aimed at reinforcing the weakened section of the culvert to minimise the impact of erosion, and to create a stable foundation for subsequent engineering works.

“The use of boulders will help arrest further collapse while long-term rehabilitation plans are being finalised,” he said.

He reaffirmed the council’s administration’s commitment to providing responsive leadership through prompt intervention in critical infrastructure challenges affecting communities across the local government.

He noted that the safety of residents and the uninterrupted movement of people and goods remained top priorities of the council’s administration.

The chairman appealed to residents and road users to cooperate with officials and exercise patience while the stabilisation work was ongoing.

He assured that every necessary step was being taken to restore the affected infrastructure in the shortest possible time.
