Scholz Stresses U.S. Alliance For Germany In Davos Speech

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the United States would remain one of Germany’s closest and most indispensable allies, regardless of who the current president is.

Scholz stressed this in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday.

The chancellor said continues close cooperation and partnership is in the interest of both the U.S. and Germany.

He said, but there should also be no phony attempts at “ingratiation” or “sweet talking” new U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Not every press conference in Washington, not every tweet should immediately plunge us into heated, existential debates.

“This also applies after the change of government that took place in Washington yesterday,” said Scholz, referring to U.S. President Donald Trump’s inauguration for a second term.

In his opinion, Trump and his government will keep the world on edge for years to come, Scholz said.

“We can and will deal with all of this,” he said.

The German leader said that cooperation between European allies and the U.S. is essential for peace and security worldwide and a driver for successful economic development. (dpa/NAN)
