Brazil Leave It Late To Beat Japan 2-1 In World Cup Knockout Clash

Brazil came from behind to defeat Japan 2-1 in an entertaining FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring a dramatic injury-time winner.

Japan made a bright start and deservedly took the lead in the 29th minute when Kaishu Sano found the net with a composed finish beyond goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Brazil responded by controlling possession but found it difficult to create clear chances against Japan’s disciplined defensive organisation before half-time.

The equaliser arrived 10 minutes into the second half as Casemiro rose to head in from Gabriel Magalhães’ cross, restoring parity for the South American side.

Japan continued to threaten on the break and looked capable of forcing extra time with a determined defensive performance.

However, substitute Gabriel Martinelli proved decisive, scoring in the sixth minute of stoppage time after being played through by Bruno Guimarães to complete Brazil’s comeback.

The victory sends Brazil into the next round of the competition, while Japan bows out after producing a courageous performance against one of the tournament favourites.
