The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has announced that nine consensus candidates have so far emerged for the forthcoming state assembly primaries.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Musa Sarkinkaji, said the development was the result of reconciliation efforts spearheaded by Governor Umaru Bago.
He explained that the governor had engaged party aspirants in discussions aimed at promoting unity and reducing internal disputes ahead of the primaries.
According to Sarkinkaji, consultations were continuing in the remaining 18 constituencies to explore further consensus arrangements.
He noted, however, that the party would conduct direct primaries in constituencies where consensus could not be achieved.
“The party has made all necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and seamless exercise, whether through direct primaries or consensus,” he stated.
Sarkinkaji appealed to APC members to maintain discipline and conduct themselves peacefully during the exercise.
He warned that the party would not condone any actions capable of undermining the credibility of the primaries or disrupting party unity.
The APC spokesman also praised Governor Bago for his efforts in fostering reconciliation among aspirants and strengthening cohesion within the party.
