The Nigeria Police Force in Kwara State has confirmed that one person was killed in an explosion triggered by an improvised explosive device in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area.
The blast, which occurred on Monday morning, involved a commercial vehicle and left a nursing mother seriously injured, while her baby escaped unhurt.
State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the driver died at the scene after the vehicle struck the device, debunking earlier reports that suggested a higher death toll.
He added that normalcy has since been restored in the area.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the explosive was planted along a road leading into the community and detonated as the vehicle approached.
Also confirming the incident, Kaiama Local Government Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, described the attack as a deliberate act of retaliation linked to recent security crackdowns on bandit networks.
He said the injured woman suffered severe wounds, including fractures and a head injury, and was later referred to Ilorin for further treatment.
Abdullahi revealed that two explosive devices had been planted, though only one detonated.
He assured that security agencies have secured the community and maintained heightened surveillance, while calling on residents to assist authorities with useful information to combat criminal activities.
