The Federal Capital Territory has witnessed notable infrastructure improvements under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking after an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike said the capital had undergone visible transformation in the last two and a half years, particularly in road and transport infrastructure.
As Abuja approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, the minister described the period as a golden jubilee for the city, adding that the current administration had laid a strong foundation for sustainable development.
Wike said the projects being executed were consistent with the Abuja Master Plan and reflected the president’s commitment to modernising the capital.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality and speed of work on the Gishiri road project, which he said would be commissioned to commemorate Tinubu’s third year in office.
The minister also commended progress on the dualisation of the Outer Southern Expressway, highlighting the ongoing bridge construction and associated road networks intended to support the relocation of Apo traders.
He praised CGC, the contractor handling the projects, and confirmed that while the Gishiri road is expected to be completed by August, the OSEX corridor will be inaugurated as part of the third anniversary celebrations.
On labour relations, Wike welcomed the suspension of a planned protest by FCT workers following a meeting with union leaders, saying the engagement helped clarify misunderstandings.
He said the return of workers to their posts demonstrated a shared commitment to the development of Abuja, stressing that the outcome served the overall interest of the city.
