Fire Razes Stores At Kano Singer Market

An early morning fire on Monday razed several stores at the Kano essential commodities market, popularly known as Singer Market.

The spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the incident, saying the cause of the fire was still under investigation.

According to findings, the inferno broke out in the early hours of Monday, allegedly as a result of the combined use of inverters and public electricity supply by shop owners in the market.

Yusif said the fire service received a distress call at about 3:16 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters to the scene to contain the blaze.

He disclosed that as of around 10:00 a.m., some sections of the market were still burning, with firefighters working to fully extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas.

The fire affected eight stores at Gidan Musa, as well as a nearby two-storey building housing several shops and offices.

Yusif assured that further details would be made available as investigations continue.
