Court Postpones Hearing In Fatal Crash Involving Anthony Joshua’s Entourage

A Magistrates’ Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has postponed the trial of a driver accused of causing a road accident that resulted in the deaths of two aides of former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

The defendant, Adeniyi Kayode, 45, is standing trial on four counts and appeared in court on Tuesday for further proceedings. The court adjourned the matter until 25 February.

Kayode, who was earlier released on bail of ₦5 million with two sureties, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention leading to bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The case stems from a road traffic accident that occurred on 29 December 2025 along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Sinamo Company. Kayode was arraigned on 2 January before the Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutors alleged that Kayode was driving a Lexus 570 jeep, registration number KRD 850 HM, conveying Anthony Joshua and his associates, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, when his dangerous driving led to a fatal crash. Ayodele and Ghami died at the scene, while Joshua suffered minor injuries.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Richard Nijiwe, said the alleged offences violated provisions of the Federal Highway Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. He requested an adjournment to allow the case file to be transmitted to the Ogun State Attorney-General’s Office through the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Defence counsel, Mr Abiodun Olalekan, opposed the application, arguing that the defence was prepared to continue with the trial.

Ruling on the application, Magistrate Somefun granted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the case until 25 February for further hearing.
