President Tinubu Hails Alake’s Re-election As Chair of Africa Minerals Strategic Group

President Bola Tinubu has hailed the re-election of Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr Dele Alake, as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategic Group (AMSG).

In a statement released on Monday by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President said the re-election reflected confidence in Alake’s leadership and his advocacy for the development of Africa’s minerals sector.

The Africa Minerals Strategic Group is a platform of African ministers overseeing mining and solid minerals, formed to promote cooperation and ensure African countries derive maximum value from their mineral wealth.

Alake was first elected chairman of the group in 2024 during the Future Minerals Forum and was re-elected at its 2026 Annual General Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

President Tinubu said the AMSG, under Alake’s leadership, had strengthened Africa’s collective voice in global discussions on minerals and positioned the continent as a key stakeholder in the energy transition and critical minerals supply chain.

He praised the minister for aligning the group’s priorities with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on unlocking mineral resources, attracting investment, creating employment and boosting economic growth.

“His pan-African vision to ensure the continent derives maximum benefits from its mineral wealth is commendable,” Tinubu said, adding that Alake’s reforms had helped transform Nigeria’s solid minerals sector into a significant contributor to the national economy.

The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for Alake’s leadership and pledged that Nigeria would continue to champion transparency, inclusiveness and sustainability in Africa’s minerals development agenda.
