DSS Alleges Mamu Benefited From Abuja-Kaduna Train Ransom

A Department of State Services (DSS) investigator on Wednesday testified that Mr. Tukur Mamu lived “above his means” during the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train abduction by a terrorist group. The testimony was given behind a witness screen at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Mamu is facing terrorism charges.

The 6th prosecution witness (PW-6) alleged that Mamu facilitated ransom payments, benefitted financially, bought luxury cars, and sponsored family trips abroad while sidelining the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Committee mandated to handle negotiations. The witness also claimed Mamu possessed a firearm illegally and provided technical assistance to the terrorists.

During cross-examination, Mamu’s lawyer, Johnson Usman, SAN, challenged the assertions, noting the investigator had no direct knowledge of Mamu’s travels or finances and was unaware of any DSS summons.

Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the trial until January 29, 2026.
