President Tinubu Withdraws Police Protection For VIPs To Strengthen Nationwide Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of police officers currently assigned to protect Very Important Persons (VIPs) across Nigeria, directing that they refocus on core policing duties.

The presidential directive, announced by spokesman Bayo Onanuga, was issued during a security meeting on Sunday in Abuja attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Under the new policy, VIPs seeking personal security will now have to request well-armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“Many parts of Nigeria, especially remote areas, have few policemen at stations, making it difficult to protect and defend the populace. In view of the current security challenges, President Tinubu is keen to boost police presence in all communities,” the statement read.

The President has also approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers and is collaborating with states to upgrade police training facilities nationwide, part of a broader effort to enhance national security.
