Football Administrator Advises NFF To Retain Super Eagles Players

Mr. Victor Nwangwu, a former State FA Chairman, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain the current Super Eagles squad ahead of this year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to enhance the country’s chances of success.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Awka, Nwangwu noted that the Eagles recently lost 3-4 on penalties to Congo after a 1-1 draw in regulation time during the final of the 2026 World Cup Africa playoff in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday.

He stressed that the players and coaching staff should remain intact, as there is insufficient time to rebuild the team. “Next is the Africa Cup of Nations, which is coming up in a few months. The boys could spring a surprise if they are not put in disarray but encouraged to do well,” he said.

Nwangwu attributed the loss to fatigue, noting that many of the current players are aging and struggled to cope with the over 120 minutes the match lasted. He also called on the NFF to integrate talented young players into the squad to strengthen the team.
