NSSEC Urges States To Strengthen Oversight Of Secondary School Projects

The Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Dr. Iyela Ajayi, has called on State Senior Secondary Education Boards (SSEBs) to intensify oversight of constituency projects in senior secondary schools nationwide.

Ajayi made the appeal in Abuja while receiving delegations from the Zamfara and Kaduna State SSEBs during separate visits. He stressed that proper monitoring is crucial to ensure contractors deliver quality work within stipulated timelines and noted that NSSEC is currently upgrading 50 senior secondary schools across the 36 states and the FCT.

He further urged states yet to align their education laws with the NSSEC Act to do so, explaining that legal compliance is necessary to access NSSEC intervention grants.

Earlier, Zamfara SSEB Chairman, Hajiya Hauwa Na’ala, commended Governor Dauda Lawal for prioritising education and appealed for NSSEC’s support in securing assent for the board’s law. Dr. Suwaiba Ibrahim, the new Kaduna SSEB Chairman, pledged her board’s commitment to fully implement NSSEC’s mandate and work closely with the commission to enhance senior secondary education in the state.
