Trial Of Former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje Delayed Until Late November

The corruption trial of former Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, was on Monday adjourned by a Kano State High Court to 26 November.

Ganduje, his wife Hafsat Umar, and six others are facing an 11-count charge brought by the state government, alleging bribery, conspiracy, and the diversion of public funds running into billions of naira.

Other defendants include Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu granted the adjournment after defence teams said they were not ready to proceed, citing incomplete filings and pending applications. She ordered all parties to ensure their motions are filed and served before the next sitting.

Lead prosecutor Adeola Adedipe (SAN) told the court that the state was ready to start its case, with witnesses already in attendance. He urged the court to dismiss the defence’s applications and proceed with the trial.

Counsel for Ganduje, his wife and son, Mrs Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, informed the court they had submitted a further affidavit dated 17 July 2025 but had yet to effect service on all parties. Other defence lawyers also requested adjournments, with some noting they had filed motions, preliminary objections or an appeal for a stay of proceedings.

The case will continue on 26 November.
