Lagos APC Hails FIRS Reforms, Says Tinubu Is Laying Foundations For Economic Renewal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal policies, stating that his administration is rebuilding Nigeria “brick by brick” through reforms aimed at strengthening revenue systems and reducing reliance on borrowing.

In a statement on Monday, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo commended the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for its transformation under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a model of modern public finance management.

He said the success of Nigeria’s economic resilience in the face of global financial challenges was due to “sound policy, strategic planning and disciplined revenue administration.”

According to Oladejo, under the leadership of Zacch Adedeji, the FIRS has moved beyond traditional tax collection to become a strategic economic institution focused on both revenue generation and supporting business development.

He cited key reforms such as the introduction of the TaxPro Max electronic tax filing system, automated VAT collection in sectors like telecommunications and e-commerce, and the expansion of the national Tax Identification Number (TIN) database.

Oladejo also highlighted improved cooperation between the FIRS and agencies including the Customs Service, the Corporate Affairs Commission and the National Identity Management Commission, which he said had enhanced data accuracy and transparency.

“These innovations have produced unprecedented revenue levels, giving government the capacity to fund infrastructure, social welfare and service delivery,” he said.

He added that by enforcing fiscal discipline and strengthening tax administration, the Tinubu government was working to free Nigeria from “the perpetual cycle of borrowing and dependency.”

Oladejo urged citizens to embrace the reforms as a patriotic duty: “A modern economy cannot thrive on oil alone. Taxes are not a punishment but a partnership with the nation.”

He noted that Tinubu had demonstrated the impact of efficient revenue collection during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, transforming it into one of Nigeria’s most economically vibrant states.
