Nasarawa Governor Encourages Nigerian Youth Corps Members To Explore Economic Potentials

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has urged newly deployed members of Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to harness the economic opportunities within the state, particularly in agriculture and community development.

Addressing the 2025 Batch B Stream II corps members at the Magaji Dan Yamusa Orientation Camp in Keffi on Tuesday, the governor—represented by Youth and Sports Commissioner Yakubu Kwanta—commended the 2,088 participants for successfully completing their orientation exercise.

Sule described Nasarawa as a state “blessed with natural wealth,” highlighting its abundance of mineral resources and fertile soil. He said the corps members could benefit from the growing agricultural value chains while contributing to local development.

“I hope you will recognise these opportunities and tap into them,” he said. “Work closely with your host communities, share ideas, and engage in projects that uplift lives. Together, we can drive real progress.”

The governor also appealed to employers across the state to welcome the corps members into their establishments, noting that their skills and energy could support institutional growth and innovation.

NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Salamatu Muhammad, praised the corps members’ conduct during the three-week orientation course and advised them to embrace their postings with a sense of responsibility and patriotism.

“Serve with humility and selflessness,” she said. “Avoid unnecessary redeployments and focus on making tangible contributions that will leave a positive legacy.”

The NYSC scheme, established in 1973, requires Nigerian graduates to undertake one year of national service, often in states other than their own, as part of efforts to promote unity and national development.
