According to analysts in the US and France, Russia’s cyber warfare on Ukraine has largely failed, and they are now shifting their focus to the European allies of Ukraine. Thales, a French defense company, stated in a report that Russia was aiming to create divisions and promote anti-war messages, using an arsenal of cyber weapons against Poland, the Nordic, and Baltic countries. Thales also said that Russia’s cyberattacks, aimed at Ukraine, were repelled because of the resilience of Ukraine’s defences.
Microsoft, in its recent threat assessment, stated that Russia’s actors had already launched attacks in 17 European countries in the first six weeks of this year. Russian actors have also conducted about 60% of all cyberattacks reported globally, according to the Thales report. Pierre-Yves Jolivet, Thales’ Vice President for Cyber Solutions, revealed that Russia shifted its focus to other European countries last year. Furthermore, countries outside Ukraine are now experiencing a “massive wave” of DDoS attacks, including Poland, Latvia, Sweden, Montenegro, and Moldova.
