The Zamfara Good Governance Group (ZGG) has issued a passionate plea for Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to contest the 2027 Zamfara governorship election and lead the state once more.
ZGG Chairman Aminu Kabiru Tsafe, in a statement on Friday, praised Matawalle’s transformative leadership during his tenure as governor.
“In a time when youth empowerment was merely a buzzword, Matawalle took decisive action,” Tsafe said.
Under Matawalle’s leadership, the Zamfara State Social Intervention Programme (ZASIP) provided a lifeline to 8,692 youths across the state’s 14 local government areas. Each received a monthly stipend of ₦10,000, offering not just financial support but dignity and purpose.
The former governor’s initiatives extended to women’s empowerment. Through the Zamfara State Women Empowerment Scheme, overseen by the First Lady’s office, 1,800 women received ₦20,000 monthly to grow small businesses.
“These women are now pillars of their families and contributors to our economy,” Tsafe noted, crediting Matawalle’s vision for fostering resilience and progress.
Matawalle’s governance was marked by inclusive leadership, with a significant share of political appointments reserved for young people. “He proved leadership is about ability and the will to serve,” Tsafe added.
The ZGG’s call comes as Zamfara looks to the 2027 elections.
“We urge His Excellency to answer the call of duty, to return and rebuild the spirit of hope he ignited,” Tsafe said.
The group highlighted Matawalle’s people-centred approach, noting that his policies planted seeds of progress still felt across the state.
“Your Excellency, Zamfara needs you,” Tsafe declared.
“The people believe in you, and 2027 offers the promise of a brighter tomorrow under your leadership.”
