Zamfara Assembly Member Dumps PDP For APC, Cites Injustice And Neglect

A Zamfara lawmaker, Alhaji Maharazu Salisu, representing Maradun II Constituency, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing injustice and lack of inclusivity by the PDP leadership.

Salisu made the announcement on Tuesday at the APC state headquarters in Gusau, where he formally joined the ruling party with over 1,000 supporters and PDP ward executives from his constituency.

He accused the PDP-led government in the state of marginalising Maradun II Constituency, despite its loyalty and overwhelming support during the 2023 elections.

“In spite of our total support for the PDP during the elections, the constituency was left out of all government appointments,” he said.
“No dividends of democracy have reached my people. Therefore, we have decided to join the APC to pursue the progress of our community.”

Prominent among the defectors were ward chairmen from Magami, Tsibiri, Gidangoga, and Maya, as well as senior PDP figure, Alhaji Salis Dodo.

Receiving them, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani, described their defection as a boost to the party’s strength ahead of future elections.

He assured the newcomers of equal participation and fair treatment, adding that more political figures were expected to join the APC before the year’s end.

“This is only the beginning — many more are coming,” Danfulani said.

Also speaking, former APC State Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Liman, commended the defectors for their courage and urged them to remain steadfast.

He praised Senator Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, for their roles in sustaining the party’s unity and influence in Zamfara.
