Dr Sani Shinkafi, a prominent member of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara, has dismissed claims of leaving the party, despite recently appearing alongside Governor Dauda Lawal to inaugurate key projects in the state.
Speaking to reporters in Gusau on Sunday, Shinkafi clarified: “Yes, I was invited by Governor Lawal, together with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-governor Mahmud Shinkafi, to commission projects. As a good citizen, I saw it as my duty to attend.”
He stressed that this gesture should not be misconstrued as a defection. “I remain a committed APC member in Zamfara and nationally. I have not resigned my membership,” Shinkafi affirmed.
Highlighting the need for unity, Shinkafi said Zamfara’s development must transcend political rivalry. “We must come together to support Governor Lawal’s work to transform the state,” he added.
As a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and now a senior APC figure, Shinkafi reiterated his belief that leaders should rally behind initiatives that benefit citizens, regardless of which party is in power.
“I support the governor’s efforts to bring progress to Zamfara, and at the same time, I remain loyal to my party, the APC,” he concluded.
Shinkafi also called on residents to prioritise peace and back the administration’s development programmes to help rebuild and advance Zamfara.
