Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has issued a strong rebuke of a media aide to Governor Dauda Lawal, calling on security agencies to investigate what it termed “dangerous falsehoods” and character attacks against top APC figures.
In a statement issued Tuesday by Yusuf Idris, spokesperson for the Zamfara APC, the party accused Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media, of spreading misinformation and slandering senior party leaders, including Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, now a senator.
At an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee, APC Chairman Tukur Danfulani denounced the aide’s remarks as a “malicious campaign of falsehood” and called on security services to step in.
“The wild and unproven allegations regarding kidnapping leveled at Minister Matawalle are deeply irresponsible and demand immediate investigation,” Idris stated. “We urge security authorities to call Mr Jafaru-Kaura to account.”
The party said it viewed the aide’s comments not only as defamatory but also as a threat to public peace and democratic discourse.
The APC also took the opportunity to highlight the former governor’s track record, noting that Matawalle’s administration responded quickly and consistently to communities affected by armed banditry during his tenure.
“We are determined to allow the rule of law to take its course,” said Idris. “Our leadership will not be dragged into distractions or political mudslinging. We are focused on providing a strong opposition and preparing for electoral victory in 2027.”
Idris urged party members and the public to remain calm, adding that the APC would not relent in confronting what it sees as the PDP administration’s failure to deliver good governance in Zamfara State.
