Youth Uprising in Benue: Highway Blockade Sparks Outcry Over Violence

On Sunday, a group of enraged youths in Benue instigated a protest by blocking the Abuja-Makurdi highway, voicing their anger over the persistent violence plaguing the state.

Dressed in black and armed with palm fronds and signs bearing various slogans, the protestors obstructed the busy roadway, causing significant disruption to traffic and insisting on immediate intervention to halt the ongoing bloodshed.

As reported by DAILY POST, the blockade led to a complete standstill in vehicle movement, generating chaos and fear among commuters.

This outcry occurred merely a day after a brutal assault by suspected armed herdsmen on the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, where it is believed that over 200 lives were lost.

In light of the escalating violence, the Benue State Government had previously cautioned against unlawful gatherings, particularly among the youth, urging calm in the face of increasing tensions in affected areas.

Despite the calls for restraint, the youths articulated their sense of neglect, demanding effective security measures and justice for those affected by the violence.
