Yobe Creates Procurement Cadre To Curb Leakages In Public Finance

Yobe State has launched a specialised procurement cadre within its civil service as part of reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and reducing financial mismanagement.

Head of Service, Alhaji Tonga Betara, said 150 officers had been inducted into the new structure and were undergoing training in Damaturu to enhance accountability in Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

“The goal is to ensure that every transaction follows due process while blocking leakages, over-invoicing, and other irregularities,” Betara said.

He added that the cadre would generate savings for the state, enabling Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to undertake more development projects.

Betara urged participants to embrace their new roles as custodians of good governance and financial discipline.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary of Establishment, Alhaji Shuaibu Amshi, said the programme would raise service delivery standards in Yobe. He congratulated the officers for being the pioneer set and encouraged them to uphold professionalism and integrity.
