The Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW) has urged peace between the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife, warning that division between the two revered monarchs could undermine the dignity of the Yoruba race.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Charles Adeyemi, YCW described both rulers as “eternal symbols of Yoruba civilisation” and said the current moment demanded unity, reflection, and respect.
The group appealed to Yoruba elders to step in as mediators and urged younger generations, especially those active on social media, to desist from inflammatory remarks against the monarchs.
“Our words carry weight, and in times of tension, they should be used to build bridges, not walls,” the council stated.
YCW said it supports the convocation of a Yoruba Obas Conference to cement peace and stressed that only patience and wisdom could ensure lasting reconciliation for future generations.
