The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed that the killers of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor with Arise News, will be apprehended.
Wike made the pledge in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka.
He described Maduagwu’s death as tragic and painful, commiserating with the management and staff of Arise News, her family, and friends.
“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in her prime. It is sad,” Wike said, assuring that the police would investigate thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
Quoting the FCTA Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Wike revealed that Maduagwu was brought to Maitama General Hospital dead at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday. He noted that a preliminary medical report would be made available to aid police investigations.
The minister prayed for the repose of her soul and urged continued prayers and support for her colleagues and family, particularly Arise News Chairman, Nduka Obaigbena.
“It is my prayer that God in His infinite mercies will accept her soul and give her family members, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.
