Wike To Play Advisory Role After Leaving Office

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has announced that he will be taking up an advisory role for the people of the state after his tenure ends on May 29, 2023. This decision comes after Wike lost his bid for the presidential ticket of the PDP to Atiku Abubakar. While speaking recently, the governor declared that he had no interest in taking up any ministerial appointment after leaving office.

 

According to Wike’s close ally, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke, the governor’s performance in eight years has earned him a lot of respect from across the country and endeared him to Rivers people. Nwuke stated that “Governor Wike has performed creditably well and this has attracted a lot of respect for him from across the country. Rivers people love him. After handing over as governor on May 29, 2023, Governor Wike will be there to offer advice on good governance to political office holders and other people.”

 

Similarly, Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has also expressed his willingness to provide possible solutions for his successor if needed. Although he lost his ambition to represent the people of Taraba south at the National Assembly, Ishaku remains active in state politics. He has promised to be available for opportunities that would aid in the successful development of the state.

 

On the other hand, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has revealed his intention to return to his banking career after his stint as governor. Emmanuel, a former Executive Director at Zenith Bank, had been quoted repeatedly as saying the only things he would pick on his May 29 exit date, would be his laptop and iPad; the only items he came in with.

 

Despite speculations that he would use Executive powers to secure a Senate seat, the outgoing governor had toed the path of peace and allowed the zoning arrangement to subsist over his personal interest.

 

These governors have shown that there is life after office, and they are willing to offer their expertise and knowledge to ensure good governance in their respective states. They have also demonstrated their commitment to peaceful transitions and putting the interests of the people first.

 

In conclusion, these governors are examples of leaders who have dedicated their time and energy to serving their people. They have also shown that leadership is not about power or self-interest, but about service and sacrifice.
