Wike Says Amaechi’s 2027 Presidential Bid ‘Dead On Arrival’

Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the 2027 presidential ambition of his former ally turned rival, Rotimi Amaechi, saying it is “dead on arrival”.

In an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, Wike said Amaechi stood no chance of clinching a party ticket or winning over Nigerian voters.

Amaechi, who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is eyeing its 2027 presidential ticket. He previously came second to Bola Tinubu in the APC’s 2022 primary.

“He said he knows the weaknesses of the president. But he also knew them in 2022 when he was mercilessly defeated,” Wike remarked, adding that Nigerians had already rejected his candidacy.

The FCT minister also questioned Amaechi’s credibility, accusing him of undermining the judiciary and failing to respect the rule of law while governor of Rivers State.
