The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has upgraded the chieftaincy stool of Kwali, in Kwali Area Council of the FCT, from second class to first class.
Wike announced the upgrade in Kwali on Monday, during a visit to thank stakeholders in the area for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s candidates in the Feb. 21 FCT area council elections.
He said that the upgrade followed Etsu of Kwali, Luka Nizassan III’s unconditional support to Tinubu and the request by the council’s Chairman-elect, Mr Nuhu Kwali.
“Let me also say that before now, your traditional ruler told me that you were going to support Mr President, and we have seen it.
“By the powers conferred on me, I hereby upgrade his chieftaincy stool to first class.
“Mr President will always be with you and give you the necessary support,” Wike said.
The Minister also told the people of Kwali that their traditional ruler would equally get a befitting palace.
He thanked the people for fulfilling their promise to support Tinubu’s candidates in the council’s election, adding that the President would also fulfill his promise to them.
“Remember, when I came to Kwali for an interactive session, I asked you what you wanted and you told me, and I told you ‘agreement is agreement’,” he said.
Earlier, Nizassan described Wike’s thank-you visit to area councils in the FCT as “unprecedented”.
“What you are doing today is unprecedented.
“We have never, in the history of the FCT, had a minister or even elected members return and thank us for recruiting people who will work for us,” he added.
He thanked Wike for making it easy for the people of Kwali to decide and choose their leaders, and pledged continued support.
To the elected council leaders, the Etsu pointed out that it was easier for them to win because the electorate saw what Tinubu had done in the area through Wike.
He urged them to follow Wike’s footsteps and strengthen the support base they already have in Kwali by doing the right thing and executing people-oriented projects.
Also, the chairman-elect described Wike as a “God’s sent” to the people of FCT, adding he defeated his opponent at the polls due to the numerous projects executed by the Minister.
Kwali, a two-term councillor in the council, thanked the people for the support and trust.
Similarly, the outgoing chairman thanked Wike for all the support for the people of Kwali and appealed to the Minister to consider executing some road projects that were dear to the hearts of the people.
