Weekly Trading Activity on the Nigerian Exchange: ₦63.79 Billion Transacted

During this week, investors on the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) engaged in trading 2.606 billion shares, accumulating a total value of ₦63.785 billion across 77,593 transactions.

In comparison, the previous week saw the exchange of 2.645 billion shares valued at ₦77.005 billion through 86,110 deals, indicating a week-on-week decline of 20.7 per cent in transaction value.

Leading the trading activity, the financial services sector accounted for 1.540 billion shares worth ₦28.963 billion in 32,805 transactions, representing 59.08 per cent of the turnover volume and 45.41 per cent of the overall value traded on the exchange.

The services sector followed, with 286.833 million shares valued at ₦1.711 billion in 6,280 deals, while the consumer goods sector ranked third with 202.565 million shares worth ₦7.439 billion in 9,708 transactions.

Notably, FCMB Group Plc, Access Holdings Plc, and Tantalizer Plc dominated trading with 600.684 million shares valued at ₦6.570 billion across 7,201 deals, contributing 23.05 per cent to the turnover volume and 10.30 per cent to the total value.

The NGX All-Share Index experienced a rise of 0.90 per cent, closing at 109,710.37 points, and market capitalisation increased to ₦68.953 trillion by week’s end.

All sectoral indices recorded gains, except for the NGX Premium and NGX Lotus II, which fell by 0.05 and 0.92 per cent, respectively.

During the week, 61 equities saw gains, a decrease from 68 the prior week, while 31 equities experienced losses, up from 28. Additionally, 56 equities remained stable, compared to 52 the previous week.

The top decliners included Multiverse Mining, Union Dicon Salt, NAHCO, University Press, and Legend Internet, priced at ₦1.95, ₦1.00, ₦8.00, 44k, and 60k, respectively.

Conversely, Beta Glass, Champion Breweries, Caverton Offshore, FTN Cocoa, and Northern Nigeria Flour Mills were among the top gainers, with increases of 46.31, 42.08, 37.70, 36.32, and 32.49 per cent, respectively, reflecting respective gains of ₦72.40, ₦2.02, ₦1.15, 69k, and ₦29.40 for the week.
