Former President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Super Falcons on their remarkable 3–2 victory over hosts Morocco to win a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, describing the achievement as a beacon of hope and national inspiration.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Jonathan praised the team for their determination and resilience after rallying from a two-goal deficit to seal the dramatic win.
“Congratulations @NGSuper_Falcons on winning the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON2024 for a record 10th time (#MissionX),” he wrote. “Your hard work and team spirit saw you fight back from two goals down to defeat the host Moroccan team by a margin of 3-2.”
Jonathan emphasized that the Falcons’ victory was more than just a sports triumph—it symbolized what Nigeria can achieve through unity and perseverance.
“Your victory is a lesson of hope. One that highlights our possibilities as a nation; that with unity, faith, and perseverance, we can achieve our national aspirations no matter how daunting the challenges we face,” he stated.
He also lauded the team for accomplishing #MissionX—becoming the first nation to win the WAFCON trophy ten times on the African continent.
“Thank you for making us proud. Congratulations on your achievement of #MissionX, the first in our continent’s history,” Jonathan concluded.
