A prominent founding member of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Waziri, has announced his resignation from the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Monday at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, Waziri said his decision stemmed from a desire to “restore democratic values” and revitalise Nigeria’s political landscape.
“In line with the PDP constitution, which requires formal withdrawal at the ward level, I have decided to resign,” Waziri said, describing the move as a difficult but necessary step prompted by the “exigencies of the moment” and national interest.
The former Board of Trustees member expressed disappointment with the current direction of the PDP, stating it no longer reflected the vision of a credible opposition. He urged his supporters and political allies to join him in building a stronger democratic alternative through the ADC.
In response, the PDP Ward Chairman, represented by Malam Muhammad Bomai, accepted Waziri’s resignation “with deep regret,” praising him as a pillar of the party whose departure would be deeply felt.
Bomai, in a notable twist, also resigned from the PDP on the spot and announced his immediate defection to the ADC, aligning himself with Waziri’s vision for a renewed democratic movement.
