The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has commenced the process of soliciting bids from private operators capable of offering towing services and clearing abandoned vehicles on highways.
In a bid notice issued by the Executive Director, UNRA stated that the government intends to engage private operators under a Memorandum of Understanding for a renewable period of three years. The objective is to promptly remove broken down and abandoned vehicles from the roads, thereby enhancing overall road safety. The towing and storage services will be provided to vehicle owners at a cost, with private operators recovering fees for their services directly from the owners.
The bid notice highlights that the services will encompass patrolling the roads to identify broken down and abandoned vehicles. Consequently, the fees charged to motorists will include a component to cover the expenses associated with patrolling.
The towing services will be deployed across different regions, including the central, north, south, eastern, and western parts of Uganda.
The Government of Uganda, represented by the Uganda National Roads Authority, now invites eligible private operators to submit their applications, expressing their interest in providing these services. Interested providers are required to provide information demonstrating their qualifications to undertake the specified services.
